alberta igaming launches with 22 platforms

The regulated Alberta iGaming market officially opened on Monday, 13th July, 2026. 22 online casinos and sportsbooks went live on the first day in this long anticipated launch. These include FanDuel, BetRivers, DraftKings, and Caesars.

Alberta iGaming is Live

The regulated iGaming market in Alberta is the second regulated market in Canada, after Ontario. Previously, Play Alberta was the only licensed online gambling site in the province being run by the government. It is still available but now runs alongside all the new licensed online casinos Alberta offers.

22 sites went live on Monday including some major brands and more are anticipated in the coming days and weeks. Below is a list of the platforms available now for Albertan players. It doesn't include Play Alberta. The full list of approved iGaming sites is available on the AiGC website.

Edmonton's Royal Glenora Club played host to the official launch with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tap Reduction Dale Nally was there and said, "Our focus has been clear from the start: to protect Albertans, especially young people, and ensure that those who choose online gaming can do so in a safe and responsible environment."

The AiGC reported that approximately 70% of Alberta's online gambling had previously taken place on unregulated offshore sites where player protections were inconsistent. AiGC CEO Dan Keene said, "The AiGC was created with a clear mandate: to implement a sound, well-governed online gaming market that puts Albertans first. This was never about growing the iGaming market, but channelizing and protecting Albertans who choose to participate."

Under the new regulated Alberta iGaming market, all approved operators have to meet responsible gambling requirements including age verification, deposit limits, time limits, and self-exclusion tools.

Operators are required to pay 20% tax on their net revenue and the proceeds will go to Alberta's General Revenue Fund. 2% of this will be allocated to First Nations and 1% will go to socially responsible initiatives.
