3 Operators Confirm Alberta Casino and Sportsbook Launch for July
With the Alberta iGaming launch officially announced, speculation is growing as to which operators will apply for licenses. So far, we three operators have confirmed their plans to open platforms in Alberta in July. These include theScore Bet, DraftKings, and Caesars. These operators will offers licensed Alberta casinos and sportsbooks and we have more details on each in the sections below.
Alberta License Approved for theScore Bet
PENN Entertainment the operator behind theScore Bet has confirmed that it received approval from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) to launch theScore Bet's sports betting and online casino platform in Alberta when regulated iGaming launches on July 13.
TheScore Bet is one of the first operators to get official approval and Alberta will be the sixth market where PENN offers an online casino and sports betting platform. The company has had success with online gambling in Ontario. PENN Chief Technology Officer Aaron LaBerge said, "We have a full-scale marketing plan that we're building towards that's going to start in July."
PENN is expecting a successful launch in Alberta and it already benefits from an exclusive partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays as well as exclusive casino games such as Blue Jays Blackjack which is available on theScore Bet's all-in-one apps and theScore Casino standalone app.
DraftKings Confirms July 13 Launch in Alberta
DraftKings confirmed in a press release on 16 April that it plans to go live with an online casino and sports betting on day one of Alberta iGaming on the 13th of July. It has opened pre-registration in the province and according to Greg Karamitis, DraftKings Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports, DraftKings is excited about the opportunity to expand its footprint in Canada and bring its online sportsbook and casino experience to Alberta.
He also said, "With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup, hosted right here in North America, it's a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.
Alberta will be the 34th online sports betting market in North America for DraftKings and its seventh for online casino.
DraftKings offers sports betting and online casino platforms in Ontario. It launched Golden Nugget Casino Ontario as a standalone platform in 2025. It plans to launch DraftKings Sportsbook and Casino and Golden Nugget Casino in Alberta.
Caesars Entertainment Opens Pre-Registration in Alberta
In a press release at the end of March, Caesars Entertainment announced that those 21 and older in Alberta could sign up and pre-register for updates about the launch of Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino, and Horseshoe Online Casino.
According to Eric Hession, President of Caesars Digital, opening pre-registration was an important step that allows players to prepare for launch while they finalize plans to bring all three of their platforms to Alberta. He said, "We welcome the province's continued progress toward a regulated online market and appreciate the Alberta iGaming Corporation's work to support operators through this process."
Those residing in Alberta can download the Caesars apps at any time and will be able to select Alberta in the app once the regulated Alberta market officially opens. Players must be 21 or older to participate.
55 Operate Sites Expressed Interest in Registering in Alberta
More than 55 operator sites have expressed an interest in registering to launch in Alberta according to an AGLC document. Companies including Caesars, Rush Street Interactive's BetRivers, PointsBet Canada, PENN Entertainment's theScore Bet, and DraftKings are already open for pre-registration in Alberta.
It's unknown now many sites will go live and some operators intend to launch multiple brands including Caesars and the Super Group.
