The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has fined Score Media and Gaming Inc. operator of theScore Bet $200,000 for failing to honour parlay cash out offers.
AGCO $200,000 Penalty for theScore Bet
The fine was issued to Score Media and Gaming Inc., the operator behind theScore Bet Ontario, as it allegedly showed a better two cashout offers that weren't paid out.
This violation was in relation to a $1,000 parlay that was placed on the 14th March on a series of NHL, NBA, and NCAA basketball games that would have returned over $1 million if every leg won.
According to the statement issued by the AGCO on 6 October, a player was unable to redeem either of the cashout offers that theScore Bet presented for a multi-leg parlay bet.
With one leg left, the bettor was offered a cashout of around $380,000 which was accepted. The automatic verification at theScore Bet allegedly rejected the cashout though and it failed to complete.
After this, the bettor was offered a second cashout offer of $100,000, which they also accepted, but this was also rejected during the verification process. The final leg lost and the player won nothing, according to the AGCO.
After investigating the AGCO found that neither of the cashout offers were achievable as they were presented to the bettor. This violated Standard 4.07, of the Registrar's Standards for Internet Gaming, which requires that information provided to players before and during gameplay cannot "mislead players or misrepresent games, including by describing outcomes, prizes or features that are not achievable."
Any offer shown on screen counts as a promise to the player, whether or not the operator's own systems reject it afterward.
Maximum Available Fine Issued
The fine issued to theScore Bet is the maximum available to the AGCO and the regulated has stressed the importance of fostering confidence for players through upholding honesty and integrity.
Chief Executive Officer and Registrar of the AGCO, Dr Karin Schnarr, said, "The AGCO is committed to holding operators accountable when they fail to uphold commitments made to players or otherwise mislead them about gaming opportunities."
Schnarr also said, "By imposing the maximum monetary penalty available, we are sending a clear message that these expectations are not optional."
The AGCO stated that its action is "sperate from any other avenues available to players to seek resolution of individual disputes." The regulator fine is punishment for how the cashout was presented and it is not ordering theScore Bet to pay the player.
Second AGCO Fine for theScore Bet
This is the second fine that has been issued to Score Media and Gaming Inc. by the AGCO. In October 2025, the operator was fined $105,000 for failing to address a player's high risk behaviour after they wagered around $2.5 million and lost $230,000 over an eight month period.
In relation to the newly imposed $200k fine, the AGCO stated that its action is "sperate from any other avenues available to players to seek resolution of individual disputes." The regulator fine is punishment for how the cashout was presented and it is not ordering theScore Bet to pay the player.
theScore Bet has the right to request a hearing before the License Appeal Tribunal within 15 days for this latest fine.
