DAZN Bet has received a sports betting and iGaming registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and this may bring the sports betting platform to Ontario's regulated iGaming marketplace.
ACGO Registration Issued to DAZN
DAZN Bet will launch in Ontario in partnership with the Pragmatic Group and will integrate sports betting into the DAZN live sports streaming platform. Before this can happen, an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario (iGO) needs to be finalized. Once this is in place a launch date can be released.
DAZN Group and What it Offers
The iGaming registration with the AGCO prepares the way for DAZN Bet to enter the regulated Ontario iGaming Market. Once the agreement with iGaming Ontario is finalized DAZN Bet will be able to offer sports betting and online casino games in Ontario players.
DANZ launched in 2016 and is sports streaming platform. It expanded over the years and currently operates in the UK, Spain, Germany, France, and Italy.
DANZ Canada launched in 2017 and offers live and on-demand coverage of major events. It's also the exclusive home for NFL Game Pass in Canada. The site offers access to all pre-season, regular season, playoffs, and the Super Bowl game live, as well as NFL RedZone and NFL Network. This offers fans a way to watch all the games.
Soccer is also available and DAZN has exclusive rights to UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and Bundesliga, Serie A matches, and World Cup Qualifiers.
DAZN and Pragmatic Group Partnership
DAZN Bets entry into the Canadian market is built on its partnership with Pragmatic Group. This collaboration saw DAZN Bet first launch in April 2022. The partnership includes Pragmatic Solutions for the platform technology and Pragmatic Play gaming content. More about the partnership can be found in this press release.
With the partnership, DAZN hopes to create a next generation sportsbook. According to DAZN Group CEO Shay Segey, "the convergence of sports media and betting is the future." Fans will be able to access live sports streaming and sports betting within the same platform.
Next Steps for DAZN
Obtaining an iGaming registration is the first of two steps that are required before DAZN Bet can go live in Ontario's regulated market. The second step is finalizing a contract with iGaming Ontario.
Once the second step has been completed a launch date can be released and DAZN Bet will be added to the official list of licensed Ontario iGaming sites.
Ontario might be the first of Canada's regulated markets for DAZN Bet. Alberta has signalled that it will be launching a regulated iGaming and sports betting market in 2026 and this may provide another opportunity for DAZN Bet to expand alongside many of the licensed casino operators in Ontario.
Ontario Has 48 Licensed iGaming Operators
The official iGaming Ontario database currently lists 48 licensed operators with 82 online casinos and sports betting websites in the province. If DAZN Bet is added the number will rise to 49 operators and 83 betting sites. These official numbers don't include OLG the government-run platform managed by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
