Play'n Go has secured an Alberta iGaming supplier license allowing it to expand its presence in Canada. The approval was announced ahead of the provinces regulated iGaming launch which is set to take place on the 13th July 2006, opening up a licensed online gambling market for Alberta.

Play'n Go Will Be One of the iGaming Suppliers for iGaming in Alberta

Play'n Go is a Swedish online casino software provider and the company announced that it received a license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGCL) ahead of the provinces launch of a regulated online gambling market in July 2026.

With this license, Play'n Go online casino games can be offered at licensed gambling sites within the province once the market opens. This licenses also allows Play'n Go to expand its reach in licensed markets.

Play'n Go Online Casino Games for the Alberta Regulated iGaming Market

The supplier license secured will allow the company to provide Play'n Go online casino games to operators that are approved to operate in the new Alberta iGaming market. This includes the range of online slots, table games, and live dealer options.

According to reports, Play'n Go has already aligned its systems so that it complies with Alberta's requirements and several of its games are currently undergoing certification ahead of the July 2026 launch.

Under the new Alberta iGaming framework, the AGLC will oversee the licensing and regulation and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) will manage commercial agreements with suppliers and operators. This is a similar structure to what is already in place in Ontario's regulated iGaming market.

Come July, this will see Play'n Go gain access to a growing market that analysts consider will be Canada's next major online gaming province.

Play'n Go Across Canada

Play'n Go is licensed and regulated in Ontario since 2022 and its games are also available in Quebec through local gaming platform partnerships. The Alberta license is important to the company and Magnus Olsson, Chief Commercial Officer at Play'n Go, said, "Being granted a license in Alberta is another important step in our North American growth journey and further strengthens our presence in Canada."

He also went on to say, "Regulated markets are the foundation of our business, and Alberta represents an exciting opportunity to expand our footprint in a jurisdiction that shares our commitment to high standards, players protection, and long-term sustainability."

Play'n Go are focused on regulated markets rather than unlicensed ones and over the past number of years, the company has expanded throughout North American and Europe while prioritizing growth driven by compliance.

The launch of regulated online casinos in Alberta will create new opportunities as licensed operators see to create partnerships with established gaming providers.

Alberta Regulated iGaming is Getting Closer

Alberta's regulated iGaming market continues to progress ahead of the official launch date of 13 July 2026. Suppliers and operators have been applying for licenses and several gaming companies have already secured their license or announced their plans to register with the AGLC.

The model being implemented in Alberta is very similar to that already in place in Ontario which has proven to be successful in generating gaming revenue for the province. Many of the operators with licensed and regulated online casinos in Ontario see Alberta as a natural expansion target.

Play'n Go's license approval is the first step and as July gets closer, it will be interesting to see what suppliers join them. A preliminary list of AGLC approved suppliers and operators at the start of May which includes Pragmatic Play and Games Global.
